Schools that continue to use Indian imagery and references claim that their use stimulates interest in Native American culture and honors Native Americans. These institutions have simply failed to listen to the Native groups, religious leaders, and civil rights organizations that oppose these symbols. These Indian-based symbols and team names are not accurate representations of Native Americans.

Columbus Day Demonstration

Join Cleveland American Indian Movement, the Native community and our supporters for this denouncement of a mass murderer and rapist who is shamelessly honored every year. He was taken back to Spain in chains and died in disgrace. His legacy of trans-Atlantic slavery and genocide should not be glorified.

We will meet at the corner of Main Street and College Street in Oberlin, Ohio.
