Consequently, the Nazi master plan of displacing or reducing by extermination the population of the western USSR and replacing it with settlers of “biologically superior German breeding stock” is roundly (and rightly) condemned as ghastly and inhuman. Meanwhile, people holding this view of Nazi ambitions tend overwhelmingly to see consolidation and maintenance of Euro-dominated settler states in places like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, the United States and Canada as “basically okay,” or even as ‘progress’. The ‘distinction’ allowing this psychological phenomenon is that each of these states went about the intentional displacement and extermination of native populations, and their replacement, in a manner ‘slightly different’ in its particulars from that employed by Nazis attempting to accomplish exactly the same thing.

Rios-Montt sentenced to 80 years for Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity

The trial of General José Efrain Ríos-Montt in Guatemala has ended and he has been found guilty! This trial was historic for being the first time in which a head of state was tried by the judicial system of his own country (not an international tribunal) for genocide. This process, which began in 1999, is a milestone for indigenous people everywhere and a victory for the Ixil Maya who suffered torture, disappearances, displacement and mass-murder during his brief but brutal reign of terror.

Trial of Rios Montt to Resume Tomorrow (April 30, 2013)!

The trial of Efrain Rios-Montt and Mauricio Rodriguez Sanchez is scheduled to resume tomorrow, Tuesday 30 April 2013 at 8.30am. The uncertainty of the trial seems to have been resolved, at least for now. I have included the email message sent to me as verification. This news has yet to hit the wire services. For more information on the trial, see the postings in the forum. -moderator

Urgent: The Trial of Efrain Rios Montt & Mauricio Rodriguez Sanchez: 04/20/2013

Judges in the landmark genocide trial of former Guatemalan dictator Rios-Montt asked the country's Constitutional Court to decide if the proceedings should continue, as a move to annul the case brought an international outcry that justice be served in the Central American country's long and bloody civil war. Efrain Rios Montt, 86, is accused of overseeing the deaths of 1,771 Mayan Indians during the military dictatorship he headed. Messages to the US State Department and Senator Brown’s office asking for support for the trial to continue to a conclusion and protection for the witnesses, the prosecutors and the judges are encouraged and needed.

4 APRIL 2013 - Opening Day Demonstration 2013

CLEVELAND, OHIO - Join the American Indian Movement, the American Indian community, and supporters in our on-going struggle in Cleveland for dignity as people, not mascots.

Organizers declare that the Cleveland “Indians” team name and logo are clearly racist, bigoted and shameful. We insist that, pursuant to the findings of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Cleveland baseball abolish their use.
