Cleveland v Atlanta 2019 demonstration

CLEVELAND, OH - Cleveland American Indian Movement, the second oldest urban AIM chapter nationally, will demonstrate outside "Progressive" Field during Cleveland Indians vs Atlanta Braves game Friday April 19, in protest of the continued use of American Indian symbols and team names in Major League Baseball.

FRIDAY, April 19 - 5pm

Come join us and support our fight against corporate racism. In the last few years, Cleveland AIM has been able to bring the exploitation of indigenous people as sports mascots to international attention. In response, Major League Baseball announced in November 2018 that it had struck a gentleman's agreement with Cleveland Baseball, stating that Wahoo is "no longer appropriate" for on-field use. But we cannot stop here. Indian-head logos, "tomahawk chops", fans dressed in red-face and headdresses, shouting Hollywood war-whoops — what we call "playing Indian" — must cease. The continued use of 'Indians' and 'Braves' team names enables this offensive behavior, and shows quite clearly that a dollar spent on Major League Baseball is a dollar that supports raci$m.

With your support we can make positive change.
