2016 Demonstration Orientation & Discussions
We have organized 3 days of orientation and discussion in preparation for the Opening Day Demonstration. Two events are in Cuyahoga County at the Fulton Branch Library. The final event is in Lorain County at the Oberlin Depot. Discussions are open to the public.
Day 1, Institutionalized Racism.

OPENING DAY DEMONSTRATION: April 4th, 2:00pm-4:30pm, "Progressive" Field, E 9th Street Gate C (at Bolivar).
Discussions will be facilitated by Robert Roche (Apache) of the American Indian Education Center and Sundance (Muskogee) of Cleveland American Indian Movement. Robert has been involved with this cause since 1971; his background includes the original lawsuit in 1972, and a plaintiff in the 1995 lawsuit against Gateway Corporation. He also filed a civil rights action in 1999. Sundance is the Executive Director of Cleveland AIM, and his background includes changing the Oberlin (Ohio) mascot in 2006 and organizing the Opening Day Demonstration at Cleveland Baseball since 2007.
In 2016 "People not Mascots", Robert, Sundance and many tribal enrolled Natives, filed a lawsuit to Cancel the Cleveland Indians Trademark. This will be discussed as well.
